ABOUT THE RESTAURANT TERRA
Don’t take just our word for it: come check for yourself some of the many press clippings, awards and testemonials that we’ve collected in our five years of existence!
Terra (meaning Earth in Portuguese) is a, mostly vegan, vegetarian restaurant. Terra was awarded recognition as one of the fifty best restaurants in the city in the prestigious Gastronomic Awards “Lisboa à Prova” (something like “Tasting Lisbon”) officially held by the Lisbon City Council – the only vegetarian restaurant to so be awarded.
The recognition of the press has also been a constant (see IMPRENSA for some examples, mostly in Portuguese) as well as the numerous and kind comments left in our Guest Book by happy visitors from all over the world. In here you’ll find some such comments in English.
We hope you too choose to visit us when in Lisbon: we love to welcome new friends!
Traditional Portuguese Gastronomy...
A Charming 18th-century building with a Private Garden...
…Is waiting your visit in one of the oldest areas of Lisbon, with all the feeling of a place where neighbours still know each other and yet minutes away from the lively night life of Bairro Alto.
Traditional Portuguese furniture, hand-painted tiles and, weather permitting, the shadow of century-old trees and the sound of the water in the old fountain will accompany your meal: we look forward to welcoming you to Terra!
So... where are we located?

Space on our walls is fast disappearing but one of the good things about a Guest Book is that we can simply add another volume when one is finished! So, if you have a couple of minutes to spare, don’t leave without signing: we would love if you, too, could share your experience of Terra. Most of the comments are in Portuguese, of course, but more than a few others where left by visitors from as far as Japan, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Finland or Norway to name just a few!
...with a vegetarian twist and lots of creativity, has made the Restaurant Terra famous. You don’t have to miss on the Portuguese food just because you’re veg*n!
Come to Terra and you’ll find all the rich flavours of the Mediterranean cuisine – and a few surprises thrown in just for fun! Don’t forget to enjoy our vegan wines and delectable vegan desserts!
What was your experience with Terra? What did we do right? Where did we fail? What could we have done better? Was this site useful? How can we improve it? We can read Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and a little Italian. We would love to hear from you but please use one of these languages!
We appreciate every comment and suggestion you care to send us. Any answer will be in English and may take a while (sorry, but we’re busy cooking!).
Thank you!
We hope your stay in Portugal is a success and wish you love, health and happiness!
Public Transportation
It’s easy to get to the restaurant by public transportation. If you’re not familiar with Lisbon you should, nevertheless, take some precautions: print the Google map above and/or have with you both the address of the restaurant and the address of your hotel. If in doubt always ask directions to go to “Bairro Alto” or “Jardim do Príncipe Real”, which is only a couple of minutes away from the restaurant.
By Bus:
92, 758, 773, 790 and Nightbus 01.
Several other lines have stops nearby. Ask to get out as close as possible to Jardim do Príncipe Real. Most Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Tours also have a stop at Jardim do Príncipe Real.
By Metro/Underground:
Yellow Line: Leave at the station of Rato and then walk Rua da Escola Politécnica. It should take about 10 minutes.
Blue Line: Leave at the station of Restauradores. Go to the funicular Elevador da Glória, all the way up to Bairro Alto.
Green Line: Leave at the station of Rossio. Go to Restauradores Square and take the funicular Elevador da Glória, all the way up to Bairro Alto.
By Train:
From Cascais: Leave at the station of Cais do Sodré (end of the line) and take the Underground or a Bus. If you’re up to a walk, you should go uphill Rua do Alecrim and ask directions to Jardim do Príncipe Real. It will take you at least 20 minutes.
From Sintra: Leave at the station of Restauradores (end of the line). Go to the funicular Elevador da Glória, all the way up to Bairro Alto.
Return by Taxi/Cab:
At Jardim do Príncipe Real, the main taxi station for Bairro Alto, you can usually find a taxi at all hours — or we will call you one if you prefer.
From Baixa/Restauradores:
The Calçada da Glória connects downtown
Baixa and Restauradores to Bairro Alto in no
more than 265 metres. This is, however, a very
steep street: you should take the traditional
funicular Elevador da Glória, which will leave
you in Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara (one of the best views to be had in Lisbon), just about 5 minutes from the restaurant. The funicular works everyday, up to Midnight Sunday to Thursday and up to 4.30am Fridays, Saturdays and any day before a public holiday.
Parking
If you’re not used to drive in Lisbon you should probably make use of public transportation: this is an area with lots of one way streets and lots of very narrow side streets. If you’re confident enough to experience Lisbon traffic first-hand you should find a parking spot in or around Jardim do Príncipe Real. If not...
R. da Escola Politécnica, nº213: Public parking, opposite Procuradoria
Geral da República, an easy 5 minute’s walk to Jardim do
Príncipe Real and the restaurant.
R. de S. Bento, nº209: Public parking, opposite Centro Nacional
de Natação; some 15 minute’s walk, mostly uphill.
Praça dos Restauradores: Large public parking;
you’ll need to take the funicular Elevador da Glória
to Bairro Alto.
